A Graphic Designer’s Christmas Wishlist For 2016

Do you know a designer and need help deciding what gifts to get for Christmas this year? Following is a list of some of the books I would love to see under the tree (my amazon list has 50 plus more...). Ranging from just the informative and interesting to the downright bloody gorgeous, and any graphic fiend should be lucky to own some or all of these inspiring tomes.   40 Days Of Dating - Timothy Goodman & Jessica Walsh Take a guy with some emotional issues and an aversion to commitments that last longer than a couple of months, pair him with a girl [...]

Jeff Koons Exhibits in London

I'm going to start by saying I am relatively new to the city of London, that is, I started working here quite recently. Being immediately hit by the enormously fast-paced nature of literally everything in the city, I adopted a 'say yes to...everything' attitude. This mind-set has seen me turn up at a designers' BBQ wedged between two closely spaced city walls, gazing across the city over a few bevvies up the Shard and having a picnic of risotto on the banks of the Thames within the first week, to name a few. As is the style with last minute plans, I was [...]

Chancery Lane: A Photo Essay

Last Friday, with a flurry of IKEA bags, cables, overflowing boxes and peak excitement, we moved from our beloved Bedford Square office into a whole new gaff. That's right; as of a week ago the lucky folk at WeWork Chancery Lane welcomed us into their fold with open arms, and it's fair to say we've settled in splendidly. In order of importance, here are the things we love most about our new working environment: Dogs. Dogs everywhere: WeWork is pet-friendly, and as a consequence, in just one week we have met no less than five dogs. Including one wearing a hula [...]

17 Lessons I’ve Learnt in SESOME’s First Three Years

As of the 1st of October, SESOME agency turned three! Reaching this milestone has prompted me to reflect on the most salient lessons I’ve learnt since that fateful day in 2013... Almost exactly three years ago, I did two (potentially) stupid things simultaneously! 1. Set up my own business (that could be a number of future blog posts alone!) 2. Made that business an agency, having never worked in an agency before After 14 years working client side, running international teams, managing an in-house team, internal suppliers and multiple agencies around the world, I thought it was time to do [...]

How to Care for an Office Plant

Our Top Tips for Horticultural Success at Work   If there's one surefire way to brighten up an office space, it's getting a plant. Or painting the wall luminous pink, but hey, not everyone is as daring as we are. Perched amongst the hard surfaces of laptops, monitors and plug sockets, our little herbaceous friends quietly emanate good vibes, positive energy and oxygen into the working environment, effortlessly transforming cold, sterile spaces into homely havens. Here at SESOME, we couldn't imagine life without our leafy pals, but looking after them hasn't always been plain sailing.... Here are some handy hints and [...]

New Tate Modern Opening – Guess Who Was There?

We've long been speculating about the eagerly-awaited opening of the new Tate Modern - as one of our favourite London galleries, the news that it was getting a face-lift was met with much excitement. The project was introduced to increase the Tate's capacity, and is the world's 'first gallery space dedicated to live art, film and installations', in the form of a twisting chimney structure on top of the gallery's existing 'The Tanks' space. So, like the curious cats we are, on June 17th we sent our most artistic team member (graphic designer Gabby) to check it out. Here are [...]

My Business Book Shelf – The Texts That Shaped My Marketing Strategy

Reading everyday, and reading a variety helps me keep learning, keeps me questioning things and being connected to the ever-changing world. In an attempt to pass my passion for the written word onto the rest of the office, I started my very own library initiative in the SESOME office for everyone to share good reads that are relevant to our dynamic and fast-paced industry. Here are my all-time favourites! The Lean Start-Up by Eric Ries Quite simply put, this book is about how to think differently. When I did my degree back in the 90’s, there was a lot of [...]

SESOME’s London Restaurant Picks

Here in the SESOME office, we are no strangers to a slice of fine dining. We can regularly be found under a mound of Domino's pizza, and we know the local Sainsburys salad bar like the back of our collective hand. However, amongst the lunchtime meal deals and endless packets of chocolate digestives, we still manage to spend a lot of time in London's newest, quirkiest and tastiest eateries. Because there ain't no dinner party like a SESOME dinner party, we've had a quick office whip-round for the team's top London restaurant picks and recommendations. You're welcome! Gigi Hoi Polloi, Shoreditch As [...]
