About Emily Frost

Joining SESOME in 2015 as in-house content writer after freelancing for a number of large travel companies, stringing words into sentences is Emily's raison d'etre. If she isn't furiously typing away at her desk, Emily can be found travelling (shocker), reading and occasionally knitting.

Shorthand and Social Media – A Luv-H8 Relationship

Anyone over a certain age will remember the agony and panic of trying to send an SMS message in the early 2000s. With pay-as-you-go contracts reigning supreme, and the consequential, ever-present fear of spilling over onto page 3/12 whilst texting on your Nokia 3310, phone users of this golden time had to resort to creative means to use as few characters as possible. As shocking as it may be to millennials, at one time in the not-so-distant past, people had to scribe such abominations as ‘c u l8r’, ‘thx’ and ‘whr r u?’ in order to communicate with their fellow [...]

New Tate Modern Opening – Guess Who Was There?

We've long been speculating about the eagerly-awaited opening of the new Tate Modern - as one of our favourite London galleries, the news that it was getting a face-lift was met with much excitement. The project was introduced to increase the Tate's capacity, and is the world's 'first gallery space dedicated to live art, film and installations', in the form of a twisting chimney structure on top of the gallery's existing 'The Tanks' space. So, like the curious cats we are, on June 17th we sent our most artistic team member (graphic designer Gabby) to check it out. Here are [...]

SESOME’s London Restaurant Picks

Here in the SESOME office, we are no strangers to a slice of fine dining. We can regularly be found under a mound of Domino's pizza, and we know the local Sainsburys salad bar like the back of our collective hand. However, amongst the lunchtime meal deals and endless packets of chocolate digestives, we still manage to spend a lot of time in London's newest, quirkiest and tastiest eateries. Because there ain't no dinner party like a SESOME dinner party, we've had a quick office whip-round for the team's top London restaurant picks and recommendations. You're welcome! Gigi Hoi Polloi, Shoreditch As [...]

‘Pics or it Didn’t Happen’: The Dominance of Visual Content

It’s an undeniable fact that in today’s digital marketing world, visual content is king. Image-led social platforms like Instagram and Pinterest have never been so in demand, and with newer kids on the block Periscope and Boomerang following close behind, the power of a visual cannot be understated. However, you’d be forgiven for thinking that this phenomenon isn’t that new a thing. After all, the notion that ‘a picture speaks a thousand words’ has been woven into our collective conscience for hundreds of years - so why has visual content only become so unquestionably dominant in the last few? To contextualise [...]

Bloomsbury and Fitzrovia: A Photo Essay

On a rare, sunny day in the city, after looking longingly out of the office window at snap-happy tourists, we decided we wanted a piece of the action. As London workers, we rarely get the chance to experience the city through fresh eyes, and as one of the most bustling, vibrant capitals in the world, it really does deserve our full attention every now and then. So, we chucked on our sunnies, grabbed the communal Nikon, and headed out onto the streets to capture what we love so much about our own little slice of London.         [...]

A Pizza Lunchtime Fun…

Here at SESOME, we love a good pizza. Individually we are all connoisseurs of the beloved hot slice (including, sadly, those sold in our local Sainsbury’s at lunchtime), and as a team we can happily chat for hours about the correct ratio of cheese to tomato base. Hell, even Lurkey was once found beak-deep in a Pepperoni Passion during an office Domino’s session. It was then with a great deal of excitement we headed off down Tottenham Court Road (or ‘ToCoRo’ as we fondly know it) for our regular Mid-Month Munch, to secure a table at Franco Manca. Having been [...]

The Power of Unintentional Viral Videos

When marketing company Drummond Central earlier this week set up a Periscope live stream of a puddle outside their office, it was simply with the intention of providing some entertainment for the company staff. Turns out though, quite a few others - 1 million, to be precise - shared their fascination with watching people try and cross a shallow puddle without getting their feet wet. Viral hits like this are nothing new - in general, if your content is a parody, unbelievably cute, or features a ‘WTF happened’ moment, you’ll be in a pretty good position to gain some online [...]

Our Five Favourite Festive Films

With all the Yuletide shenanigans the festive season has had to offer, at SESOME we're feeling the Christmas spirit like it's no one else's business. But, once the mulled wine has been downed and the last karaoke rendition of All I Want For Christmas Is You has been had, we're looking forward to curling up in the sofa to watch anything involving sappiness, snow and Santa. So now we're going to share our favourite Christmas films with you. Enjoy! Adrian: Gremlins: Not necessarily a Crimbo classic, but then there are only so many times you can watch Home Alone! I saw this [...]

The Bird is the Word

At SESOME, we like to think of ourselves as pretty decent people. We work hard, recycle stuff, and always defend Sue Perkins when she’s bad-mouthed in the building. So last week when a little feather-clad fella’ showed up on our doorstep, we obviously had to take him in. Wrapped in a tiny blanket and with a thimble of scotch at hand (turkeys are notoriously big on scotch), our new friend let us know his name was Lurkey, and he’d escaped the other side of the pond when he found out that the Thanksgiving dinner party he’d been looking forward to [...]
